Clapham Angling Preservation Society (C.A.P.S.) is a voluntary organisation that was set up in 1993, it relies totally on Donations, Gifts, Grants, Sponsorship and Support from both inside and outside the sport to enable it to function. It's primary aims are to protect and promote angling on Clapham Common in South London. Not only for the present, but for future generations of anglers.

One of the main benefits of angling to both young and old alike is that it gives an all round awareness of the environment and the things that go on in that environment as a whole. This is of a special benefit in an urbanized area such as Clapham, where open space is at a premium.

Coarse fishing on Clapham Common is available on two coarse fishing ponds:-

Mount Pond - a typical coarse fishing park pond of about 3 acres it carries a depth of between 18 inches and 5 foot plus. It has recently had extensive planting carried out to its margins and has a tarmac path running around the edge. There is also a designated wildlife\bird sanctuary area where no fishing is allowed. Carp to 20lb, roach, gudgeon and eels. Successful tactics include ledger to island margins, whip or float fish margins or the method. Best baits include maggot, pellet, meat, corn and boilies.

Eagle Pond - is another typical coarse fishing park pond of approximately 1 acre with a small island. Over the last two years it has undergone a complete regeneration program, having been completely de-silted, bank re-instatement, the planting of over 500 aquatic plants as there were none, the provision of new swims for both able and disabled anglers, the creation of an adjacent wetland area and the restocking of the pond with a more diversified range of fish as the pond was mainly occupied by carp. It also has its own re-oxygenating plant to re-oxygenate the water should the need arise at times of low oxygen levels. It has levels of from 6 inches margins to just over 5 foot. Stocks inlcude carp to 19lb, tench, bream, roach, rudd, perch, chub and gudgeon. Best tactics are float or feeder and best baits include maggot, caster, hemp, pellet and bread.
