The average width is 14 metres with depths varying from 4ft down the middle to less than a foot on the far bank. Main coarse fish present are: roach and perch are the main targets with small fish falling to pole fished maggots over a cloud of groundbait. The elusive larger roach can be tempted by hemp and perch [to 3lb] falling to worm with chopped worm feed. Bream [to 4lb] and skimmers [to 1lb 8oz] can provide excellent bags in areas such as the Oakfield Flyover, the trees below the Park Street Lock in the town. Casters and chopped worm will hold them in your swim. The coarse fishing match record is 64lb. This stretch of the Grand Union Canal is also noted for some quality double figure carp [to over 20lb]. Pike, ruffe, eels and tench are also present. There is ample car parking in nearby streets at the town end. Boat traffic can get busy but not excessive during late spring and summer when evening sessions often offer the best fishing.
